Christchurch

After getting Peter on the plane I went straight to Christchurch, which is a 5 hour drive. But I never get tired of the landscape of NZ, so it didn’t feel that long! Once I arrived in Christchurch I walked through the city with the idea to get some food. While I was wondering around a bit, I saw the “Bridge of remembrance”. This bridge was build to remember the troops of the Second World War. Before I had something to eat, I saw this very nice “University Theatre”, where they played ”The Elephant man”. I ended up watching that show, which was really great! Read More...

Nelson would be the last two days for Peter in NZ. Because he was still a bit sick we didn’t do much. We did saw quite a lot of movies though in Nelson. We saw “Bourne ultimatum”, “Das leben der anderen” and “The Italian”. All movies were pretty good, but the last two weren’t Hollywood movies, but really good movies. They weren’t feel good movies at all, after those movies you were thinking a lot, which I liked! Read More...

Motueka

The first day Peter stayed in bed and I went to the I-site to get some information about walking and kayaking in the Abel Tasman national park. I ended up booking both, but I still didn’t know when I was going to do on what day, because for the kayaking trip there was a minimum of 2 persons. I also went to the museum of Motueka. Although I don’t think you could call it a museum, because it only told a story of one family and how they went from England to New Zealand. But I had fun reading and seeing the story. Read More...

Westport to Motueka
Sunday, September 2, 2007, 01:39 AM - Travel
After a good night sleep and a good breakfast in the hostel we went on the road again! The first stop that day would be the “ Buller Gorge Swingbridge”, this is the longest swingbridge in NZ. There we were also trying to find gold, I only found 3 small pieces (maybe for 5 euro). What we did found though were a lot of sandflies, well actually they found us! We were eaten alive near the water!!! So I got out of there quite quickly.

After this we drove straight to Motueka, where Peter went straight to bed and I wandered a bit through the town to see what I could do there in the next few days!

Cheers,
Paul

Fox to Westport
Sunday, September 2, 2007, 01:34 AM - Travel
After another night in a terrible bed we had to check out. Peter did his skydive over Fox Glacier and I just had a great breakfast with Dave. He made me a great breakfast (toast with ham, cheese and mushrooms!!!). It had been a long time since I really had time to have breakfast! When Peter got back he didn’t feel so good, so it was up to me to get us to Westport :). Because Peter didn’t feel well at all, we stopped in Hokitika to get him to a doctor. There they said that he had a mild concussion from the bungee jump! After that news we went to see “Percy the Kiwi”, which was quite fun. I knew they lived at night, but they are completely blind! It took him 3 times to get into his hole (missed the first 2 times by hitting his head on the wall!).

The next stop was the pancake rocks. I only have one good picture of those rocks (including Peter). The pancake rocks were fun to see, but I wouldn’t like to stay there for a long time!

That evening we went to stay in Westport to get some sleep!

Cheers,
Paul
