Roadtrip to Rondvassbu

Hey All,

Last weekend of August I went with 3 friends on a roadtrip to hike to Rondeslottet. This is about a 4.5 hour drive North of Oslo in Norway’s oldest national park, called Rondane.

The roadtrip to the campsite (Rondvassbu) went pretty fast and was a lot of fun and just before we reached the parking we went for a very small hike towards Storulfossen, where we relaxed a bit before continuing to the parking and bike to the hytta/campsite. This part was somewhat challenging with big bags, but fun either way.

After setting up the tents we had a wonderful dinner and played some games in the cabin before going back to the tents. Before I went into the tent I definitely needed to enjoy the view of the milkyway (although I couldn’t get a picture of it πŸ˜•)

The next day after we had breakfast and started on the hike (Rondvassbu – Vinjeronde – Rondslottet and back again). As per usual the hike started going up straight from the campsite. Hiking was fun, but definitely rocky and fairly steep at some points of the hike. Since we needed to return on the same trail, we needed to either climb or go down on these steep parts. Furthermore the hike itself is not really long, but has about 1000 m altitude gain (and thus also down again)

After the hike and taking our bags from storage from the cabin we wanted to bike back to the car. But there were no bikes left at the cabin, so we needed to walk an extra hour to get back to the car 😣. Once back on the road, we stopped for petrol and some fuel for ourselves, which was well deserved. The rest of the drive back to Oslo was pretty nice, although it became pretty silent in the car πŸ˜….

Cheers,
Paul
